You've booked your flight, requested your time off work, and now it's time for you to choose accommodation. But now what? What do you choose? It may seem fairly common knowledge, but if you ever sit down and think about the best accommodation type for your trip, you'll find yourself confused. Don't fret, though, because we're here to help.
So typically, there are three options: hotels, hostels, and Airbnb. Depending on your trip, what you want to do and who you have with you, specific accommodations could be better for your trip than others. So we'll go through each of those and decide which is best for you. Without delaying further, let us get to it.
Everyone loves a good hotel because of how comfortable it can be. If it's a chain you're familiar with, you feel very safe, especially when traveling. Typically people choose hotels when they want something comfortable, something that's a little bit safe, and somewhere they know they're going to be able to relax. There are a couple of cons with hotels for solo travelers, though, because you won't be able to find people to explore the place.
You'll have to find a way to meet new travelers because people in hotels are not looking to meet new people. They're looking to chill or be with their family. Simply put, hotels are not the best accommodation if you're looking to meet people and have fun. But if you're looking to relax or spend some time at a comfortable hotel that you're familiar with, then hotels are perfect for you.
Hostels are better than they sound. It's more than just shared living space. Depending on which hostel you decide to stay in, beds can range from two people in a room to about 13, sometimes up to 18 people in a room. Usually, it's dorm style, so it's like bunk beds on top of each other. For the solo traveler, living in a dorm-style situation is the best because you can always find a person who'll love to do the same things as you.
At hostels, people are not really in their rooms that often. They typically come out into open shared spaces, like open lounges. There are lots of open shared kitchen spaces, and a lot of cool things that hostels do is they'll have like a pub crawl at the end of the night where everybody comes out of their room, chit chat and share their experiences, and then next thing you know you found a friend to last you for a couple of years. Next time you go to a new destination, you have someone to stay with.
Airbnb's are great because they come in many different ways. Sometimes you can stay in a room on rent. During other times you can get the entire apartment or even a house to yourself. There are many different options for Airbnb, but remember that you must be aware of the rules. So if you're booking an Airbnb, you must ensure you're looking at whether you can smoke there. Can you have parties there? Can you be loud? Whether you have to be quiet at a particular time.
It all depends on what the host of Airbnb wants for you. If you're not a big fan of rules, then there are probably better options than Airbnb. The best option for you would be to rent out rooms. That way, it would be nicer for you to come and have dinner with them. Sometimes they might even teach you some of their languages. It's just a way to interact and build a culture among people.
4 Main Things to Consider when Booking any Accommodation
When thinking of accommodation, we all say the cheaper, the better. As long as you feel comfortable staying at that place, it doesn't matter whether you have the luxuries or not. Hotels are quite expensive compared to hostels and Airbnb, so if you're a budget-conscious traveler (which we all should be), look into a hostel or rent a room (Airbnb) because that will save you the most money.
Group size
Group size in accommodation is the second most important thing to consider. If you have a bigger group or are traveling with family, you'll need more space, privacy, and amenities. Hostels are unsuitable for families compared to hotels and Airbnb because of the dorm-style living conditions. If you're traveling solo, you can live in either one of these based on your preference.
Airbnb and hotels usually provide towels, washing machines, and toiletries. Depending on the place, some even offer kitchens or kitchenettes to store and cook food. When you stay in the hostel, however, you need to bring your own towels, shampoo, conditioner, and the like. Hostels and hotels have staff on properties, so if something goes wrong, you have someone there to help you immediately, unlike Airbnb.
Privacy is something we all value a great deal. Hostels offer less privacy than Airbnb and hotels do. You share a bathroom, a room, and a common area, which is different from what people prefer. But if you're okay with that, hostels are the most inexpensive option.
