Authorities have arrested a woman after she allegedly assaulted flight attendants and police officers at one of the USA's busiest airports.
The Atlanta Police Department responded to a call on concourse D at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Wednesday night regarding a suspicious woman attempting to open secured doors inside the concourse.
According to the statement, officers were informed that a woman identified as Jennifer Holder was at gate D-9 discharging a fire extinguisher inside the concourse.
When officers approached Holder, she reportedly sprayed them with the fire extinguisher and refused to comply with their orders.
Three airport flight attendants received medical attention due to respiratory discomfort, and Holder was eventually detained and taken into custody.
The Atlanta Police Department said that Holder resisted arrest and acted inappropriately by spitting and kicking at officers. She was erratic, and almost impossible to contain at first, attacking everyone in her path. However, after multiple officers got to the scene, they were able to bring her to the ground to ensure her safety, and of those, she was attacking.
The suspect was treated for any injuries she self-sustained during the incident before being transported to Clayton County Jail.
At this time, authorities have not revealed a potential motivation or reason for Holder’s behavior, and their investigation into the incident is still ongoing. The suspect now has several charges pending against her, including assault.
The incident caused chaos and disruption at the airport, with many passengers reporting delays in their flight plans due to the altercation. The airport staff has since released a statement to apologize for the inconvenience caused and to assure travelers that safety remains their top priority.
Holder currently remains in custody as the investigation continues, and her charges may be upgraded or changed pending the outcome of the investigation. Until then, airport officials are asking travelers to comply with safety protocols and to contact the staff if they witness any suspicious activity.
No matter the outcome of this case, it serves as a reminder of how important it is to remain aware of our environment and to report any suspicious or concerning activity to the authorities.
